No . . . Really . . . It Can

Firefox (I thought we were talking about Google Chrome) – we are – Firefox might have the super duper handy about:config area which Google Chrome is seriously lacking, but don’t let that stop you, because Google Chrome does have plenty of about: pages which are packed with all sorts of interesting bits and pieces. The clues are in the names;

  • about: memory
  • about: network
  • about: stats
  • about: internets
  • about: dns
  • about: cache
  • about: histograms
  • about: plugins
  • about: crash
  • about: version

See, there are plenty to go at. There are plenty of other extra bits and pieces you can do too, to really improve your Google Chrome experience. Although Google Chrome doesn’t actually support any extensions just yet, don’t forget the bookmark-lets, macros and other extras which can help towards making working with Google Chrome even easier.

  • Use Privoxy to block those annoying and unwanted ads which keep popping up and distracting you from what you’re supposed to be doing.
  • Use AutoHotKey to create custom keyboard shortcuts for Google Chrome. This can add nine of the much needed keyboard shortcuts which we’ve all been hoping for.
  • Open pages in Google Chrome from Firefox. You know how it is when you’re busily browsing in both Chrome and Firefox and you’d like to open up certain pages with Chrome, well there’s an extension which allows you to do just that.
  • Bookmarklets which enable you to print a page or preview the RSS feeds of a website in one single click, no toolbars, no extensions, just bookmarklets. How handy is that?
  • Do a little anonymous surfing with Google Chrome. If you use the Chrome Anonymizer it’ll scramble your unique ID so that nobody can track you and what you’re doing. Hmmm, wonder when that might come in handy!
  • A free download which will enable you to run Google Chrome from your thumb drive – say that again – a free download . . . . okay, I heard you the first time. This comes in really useful for when you’re traveling between computers yet don’t want to lose your Chrome settings, it’s the portable, standalone version of Google Chrome and it’s free.
